About the Model Risk Manager role
Model risk management is where finance and AI governance meet. These roles validate and govern the models a company bets on, credit, capital, fraud, and now the machine-learning and generative-AI systems moving into production. The discipline runs on SR 11-7 in banking and the emerging AI model-governance frameworks everywhere else. As models multiply, so does demand for the people who can prove they are sound.
BLS put the 2024 median at $78,420. In 2026, market trackers show averages from roughly $99,000 to $120,000, with the top quartile above $160,000. Financial centers and senior governance roles sit at the top of that range.
